“How-To” Group Writing Project

How-To Group Writing Project

I took part of a writing project in July and it was a great way to meet other bloggers, discover new blogs, and have a great time. There was a lot of exposure for everyone who participated and helped to promote what bloggers do best, write! I love “How-to” guides so there is no better writing project for my first contest.

The Rules:

The rules are simple. Just write a post about any topic, but in an “How-to” format. An example could be “How to Start a Blog”, “How to Wash Your Dog”, or “How to Loose a Guy in 10 Days” (I stole this title from a movie, but it still a good title). Your subject matter can be any topic, but I suggest you keep it on topic for your blog. Anybody with a blog can participate. Once you have made your new post, please contact me to let me know about your entry. Only one post per entrant, no matter how many blogs you own :c).

Added 09-05-2007: I wanted to let everyone know that your title does not have to contain “How-to”. As long as the actual post is about how to do something it will qualify!

Disclaimer: Illegal, offensive, and pornographic blogs and posts will not be accepted. Keep it clean!

The Prizes:

I have a cash prize for the top 3 winners because I like the idea of having more than one winner:

1st Place: $100

2nd Place: $75

3rd Place: $50

Bonus Prize: Each of the winners will also go down in BlueJar.com history as the first to get their banner ad on my blog (currently it is a ad virgin). The winners will get a 30 day 125×125 banner ad on the top of my sidebar.

The Judges:

The entrants are the judges! Everybody who enters will get to pick their top 3 choices. Once the entries have been posted, you will have 1 week to pick your choices and post it on your blog. If you want to, you can post your runner-up posts too but only the top 3 will be counted toward the final vote. You do not have to e-mail me your top 3 picks link, I will visit each entrants blog to find your entries.

The Deadlines:

The first deadline is September 18, 2007 at 12 midnight PST. This is the last date you can enter your “How-To” blog post. Be sure to contact me to tell me about it!

The second deadline for posting your top 3 picks will be on September 25, 2007 at 12 midnight PST. I will post the winner on September 27 – I need a little time to tally the votes!

The Questions:

If you have any questions, please comment or contact me. Goodluck to everyone!

wow Sarah great initiative and very nice contest :D
I will see if I want to participate or not :) but honestly this is a great step by you ;) keep up the good work young lady

  3. Sarah on September 4th, 2007 at 1:47 pm

Thanks! I would love to have you in the project.

  4. CristianR on September 4th, 2007 at 2:42 pm

I’m in for sure in this content Sarah :) I’ll contact you when my entry will be published.

  5. Adam Donkus on September 4th, 2007 at 3:02 pm

Does it have to be a new post? Can it be one that is older, but rewritten for the contest?

  6. Sarah on September 4th, 2007 at 3:17 pm

@CristianR: Thanks Cristian, I look froward to it!

@Adam: I think we should keep it to new post only just to be fair. This keeps it so that you all have the same amount of time writing the posts.

Do keep in mind that I’m not judging. All the contestants will be judging so you’ve got to impress your peers!

  7. Steven Snell on September 4th, 2007 at 4:18 pm

    Sarah,
Great idea! I’m looking forward to participating.

  8. Dee on September 4th, 2007 at 5:01 pm

I’m in too. I like the idea of a ‘How-to” as well having fun you can learn something too. :-)

  9. David on September 4th, 2007 at 7:09 pm

Do you still accept the post if it is posted already?

  10. Sarah on September 4th, 2007 at 7:17 pm

Thanks Steven and Dee! Looking forward to your posts!

Hi David, welcome to bluejar.com! Posts must be posted between now and the 18th to qualify. I think it will only be fair to give everybody the same amount of time to work on their posts so only new posts will be accepted.

  11. shaun on September 4th, 2007 at 8:34 pm

sweet contest!!! I’m in this for sure lol. expect my post soon!

  12. menopauseprincess on September 4th, 2007 at 8:43 pm

    Hi,

This is my first time on your site and I love it, I got here from Brown Thoughts. I’m not sure if I can enter your contest as my blog isn’t really technical. I will certainly be back thought!

  13. Sarah on September 4th, 2007 at 9:56 pm

Great Shaun! I’m happy you’ll be joining in. :)

Thanks menopauseprincess! You can certainly join in, does not have to be a technical blog at all! Any subject matter is okay (expect for illegal, offensive, or pornographic). If you got something to teach, than post it up and submit it to the project. It will be great to have you join in.

  24. Sarah on September 5th, 2007 at 8:43 am

Glad to see some new participants! We have already gotten one entry in!

I will be adding this as a note to the post, but I want everyone to know their title does not really need to be “How-to …” It can be anything your creative minds come up with as long as the actual post is a “how-to”.

@ses5909: Hehehe, pop my ad cherry! :c)

@Ferienwohnung: There is no word limit! You can make the post short or long.

    @Sucker: I’m sure you can!
