FireFox Reaches 400 Million Downloads

FireFox Reaches 400 Million Downloads

FireFox downloads have now passed over 400 million according to the Spread FireFox website. That is simply amazing to reach in a span of nearly 3 years. I love FireFox and I have never looked at another browser the same since I’ve installed it. The sheer amount of plugins that enable me to configure my browser exactly how I want it was more than enough convincing for me to stick with FireFox. I can say I do have FireFox on 4 of my computers, so we won’t know the exact amount of users based on the download figure.

BlueJar.com has an average of 89% of its visitors using the FireFox browser too, so I know from first hand experience that not only are people downloading FireFox but they are actually using it too.

Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera and other web browsers still have there place but I would not be surprised if all of our non-techy family members and friends start to use FireFox in the next couple of years too. Right now it still seems new to them and as FireFox keeps rising in its user base, hopefully it will be mainstream for the non-tech crowd too!

Your Firefox stats are amazing. I don’t recall seeing any other site with such a high perentage. Even my blog, which is mostly Linux related, has about 40% IE.

I don’t think I even realized the large amount of FireFox users until Shaun said something in my comments. Than I looked again and realized that most of my visitors are indeed using FireFox. I’ve never seen such a huge landslide before either! I would think a Linux based would have a lot of FireFox users too, but maybe they are using other browsers that work on Linux also?

@Sarah: Well yes, there is Opera, Kazahakase, Epiphany, Konqueror, Galeon, Dillo, elinks, Seamonkey, and probably a few more than I’m nor thinking of. However, I only have about 2-3% of these browsers. Mostly Firefox and Internet Explorer.

    Let’s be honest here.

    I’m probably one of the

@Jake: As long as total amount of FireFox + other browsers pass IE that would make sense for me anyhow, for linux users! Otherwise it would seem a little strange since it is indeed a Linux users who recommended FireFox to me first, hehehe.

@Felix: Uh oh, it looks like WordPress cut off your comment!

I use firefox because of the security measure it provides. Around 70% of my visitors use firefox and I’m sure it will continue to grow.

Did you see that Matt Mullenweg from Wordpress confessed he’s been using IE7 lately? Personally, I use a lot more IE7 and FireFox, but I definitely double-check my blog and other blogs with FireFox just to be sure of compatability.

Uhm Uhm. I said, I am probably one of the IE users here.

IE7 certainly does seem to have a lot of users even in the tech world I see more and more people saying they are for sure using it. I have been using it on my laptop because it is the only OS that I have that will install IE7 + IE7 allows me to watch on demand Netflix movies, can’t go wrong there.

But it hasn’t impressed me that much. Are there plugins for IE7 at the level of FireFox?

If it wasn’t for the fact that I have to open up IE7 and IE6 every now and then to check how my blog looks in those browsers, I wouldn’t even have those installed.

Once I started using Firefox, I never looked back.

I think the browser preference is indicative of the subject matter and the demographics of the audience.
My blog traffic tends to be primarily Firefox as well, but another site that I work with that sells corn stoves is primarily IE.

@Evil same here. Surprisingly the other day I checked one of my blogs and it looked better in IE…miracles never cease.

I just started building my website a few months ago. Before that time I didn’t even know that other browsers were out there. I recently started using FF and won’t go back. So much better than IE.

Glad you found FireFox and it is working out for you! Welcome to the cult! That is what IE users say we are in for, hopefully they IE users can’t read this :c).
