BlueJar.com Monthly Update: August 2007

BlueJar.com Monthly Update: August 2007

August has been a great month for BlueJar. I’ve had a lot of great feedback which is very encouraging to keep up with what I’ve been doing and continue to experiment with different ideas. I’m continuing to learn what it takes to run a blog and I’m very happy with my stats from last month.

Linkbacks

This month has been a great month for linkbacks. I think the rule here is to give out linklove and it will just come back your way on their own. Right now I have 366 blog reactions over at Technorati and have an Authority of 195. This has me ranked at 24,535. The most creative linkback I’ve gotten by far was from dcrblogs.com, it is really awesome to be included in this post.

RSS Readers

I did reach my RSS Reader goal of 60 daily readers, just barely though. The last few days of the month I brought it over 60 consistently. Sometime this month I will try to get my chicklet for feedburner up.

August 2007 FeedBurner Stats

Comments

As always, I am very thankful to everybody who has commented on my blog. I am up to 455 from 133 last month. That is a total of 322 comments in the month of August alone! This is just the best part of blogging and I hope everybody keeps the great comments coming. I do reward my top commentors each week with my Jar Full of Links, so keep them comments coming.

Website Traffic Stats

In August I had a total of 7,420 unique visitors and 16,299 page views. Here is a comparison from last month. These screenshots are taken from StuffedTracker, which I’ve set to not track my IP address so they are very accurate:

Here is another chart I wanted to share. I can assign each domain to a different referring group and than it will break it down for you to show you where the traffic is coming from.

As you can see the most of my traffic is from social networking websites, mostly StumbleUpon (I can go down even further down in each category to see more stats).

Plugins That Save Me Time

Opal suggested the Popularity Contest plugin I’m using right now to display my most popular posts. I also added the In-series plugin, which I found out about on Kyles Cove. The In-series plugin allows you to easily link your posts that are series together. I tried to do it by hand, but this is much easier. Thank you guys, these plugins have been great!

Goals for BlueJar.com

Last month I did manage to meet all of my goals. For this month I’ve come up with the following goals:

  1. Try to be more personal in my post, I feel sometimes I’m a little to technical.
  2. Start featuring more bloggers on my blog.
  3. Gain more search engine traffic from Google and other search engines.
  4. Start a blog contest, check back tomorrow for more details.
  5. Have fun.

I had no idea how great it would be to run a blog! My adventure in blogging continues…

Thanks ReviewSaurus! It is fun to see a website grow, I’m used to developing websites and than somebody else takes over so this is really exciting for me.

Thanks everyone! Sometimes its a little strange posting up my stats. I think only bloggers do this and it is great to gain motivation from setting everything all laid out.

@Dj Flush: Now you’ve added extra pressure! Nah just kidding :c).

Sarah - Congrats on the web stats and congrats on a rising RSS feed. It sounds like you are doing well on Technorati and your blog is catching on. As I am learning, all of this can definitely take some time.

I am still used to the e-commerce mentality with large marketing budgets. Not so in the blogosphere where quality content is king :).

    Congrats again!

I know what you mean Paul. When you come from a different angel it is a completely different set of playing cards in the blogsphere! Hey I’ll take the huge marketing budget tho if you don’t want it, hehehe. ;c)

Congratulations on your fab stats Sarah,

You are doing a great job with this blog. The stats are good to look at and I love your little pie slices. I’m currently trying to install Google Analytics to use besides my website stats that come with the hosting.

    Keep up the great work
    Monika ;-)

Glad to see you are using In Series. Its not for everyone, but it is an amazing plugin that more people should use and I think it fits this blog perfectly!

By the way, I love your site’s appearance. I may need some web design lessons!!
